MOVIES

It's hard to find good movies these days... but if any of these are new to you I highly recommend them. I couldn't include them all so I'll just keep adding as I go or as I find good new ones.

NEW ADDITIONS TO MY LIST:
"Count of Monte Cristo"- I love Jim Ceveziel and the theme of this novel and movie is "God Will Give Me Justice". Plus it's just an awesome story.

"Les Misrables"(the 2012 version)- Cried multiple times, a movie that points us to hope in God even in the worst of times,  beautifully made and acted in, plus I grew up loving these songs.

"Hungry For Change"- Talk about eye opening! This is a must see for anyone who wants to break free from eating addiction, medical bills, and find a way to honor our bodies as temples of God the way He meant them to be.

"Earthlings"- the most disturbing documentary I've ever seen! You can view it free online. It's about how we've turned living things into machines of mass production. It opened my eyes to see I need to be really careful about where my food comes from because ignorance is not bliss, I pay and the animals pay.

"Happy"- A documentary that explores what really makes people happy. The answers ring true.

"October Baby"- Really touching film that shows the coming of age story of a girl that lived through a failed abortion. It faces this whole issue in a loving, compassionate, human light.

"Roman Holiday"- Classic. Beautiful. Audrey Hepburn. The way movies should still be made.

"Under The Same Moon"- Love story between a cute little son and his mother. Illegal immigrants try to find a better life in America and a mom and son get torn apart.

SPIRITUAL
I can't say enough about these three movies. All I can say is watch them. The Passion and Lord Of The Rings you've probably seen before but The Cross is a not as well known. It's a great documentary about the life of Arthur Blessitt who carried a cross around the world and has amazing stories about it.
FUNNY
Most funny movies are pretty dirty. These are not though! The first time I saw Nacho Libre I went by myself to the movie theater and I thought it was the dumbest movie I'd ever seen. But being forced to watch it again- I now love and cherish it! hahaha "It is thee best"!

SET IN AFRICA

NATIVE AMERICAN
I love Native American culture. These movies are beautiful. Must watch. Last time I saw Dances With Wolves with a bunch of friends in a cabin in North Carolina. It inspired us to give each other Indian Names. I was Nightingale. We braided our hair and I paddled in a canoe (see below picture)
This movie will do that to you.

HUMAN RIGHTS DOCS

Nefarious is an amazing documentary made by people that my sister actually works with through the House Of Prayer in Kansas City Missouri. The end will make you cry. It exposes all the horrors of the sex industry but there is redemption in the end.
Born Into Brothels is really inspirational and surprisingly funny at points. I loved these little kids- it's amazing how there is so much untapped talent and creativity in most people.
Other Great Ones: "Jiro Dreams of Sushi"
"Fat, Tired and Nearly Dead"

GIRL POWER
Elizabeth is such a strong, thinking woman. She never married and sacrificed a lot to rule the way she wanted to. The songs in Yentl are amazing and her unusual determination to value learning over convention.

MOVIES ABOUT MUSIC
If you love music, you'll love No Direction Home. I've watched it sooo many times. It's interesting to see the creative climate and the influences that birthed the phenomenon that is Bob Dylan. Right place, perfect time, one in a billion mind.

MOVIES SET DURING THE HOLOCAUST
I have literally watched Life Is Beautiful at least 100 times. It's my all time favorite movie. The little boy in it is so cute. Watching this makes me want to make a masterpiece. You can feel the love that went into this. An interesting note is that the lead guy and girl in this movie are married in real life and Roberto Benigni wrote, directed and starred in this.

TO GET YOU THINKING
Buck showed me one of the most important lessons that I've been learning this year; it's a good thing to be broken. Broken horses are the most usable, the best to work with and the masters favorites. Some horses are badly broken and afraid, instead of being compliant they are rebellious and untrusting. But when a good trainer gently but firmly breaks a horse, they become the best creatures they could be. Everytime I think of rearing my head up, bucking off restraints, and not trusting my Master- I think of this movie.
